The founders of Agency Core, a management tool designed exclusively for creative agencies, have successfully closed a seed investment round worth £150,000, after moving from Surrey to Edinburgh and spending a winter Scottish to live in a motorhome.

Agency Core founders Matt Davies and Helen Visser.

Funding from Par Equity and Scottish Investment Bank, the investment arm of Scottish Enterprise, enabled Agency Core to expand its team by hiring Andy Berry as lead developer and increase marketing activity around the agency event scene.

Agency Core co-founder Matt Davies said: “We were aware that the business could attract investors willing to take a more active role, so it was something we were prepared for. I’m very happy to say that it worked out even better than we imagined and the current team now includes people with absolutely the right attitude and experience to drive Agency Core forward. This is a testament to Par Equity and how they use their excellent network of investors to add value beyond financial backing.

Founded by Davies and Helen Visser, Agency Core was developed from direct experience running their own digital agency in Surrey. In April 2014, driven by the belief that there must be a better way to manage the operational aspects of a creative business, the duo shifted their focus from agency work to bring their idea to life. Six months later, they applied to join the Edinburgh-based ‘UP Accelerator’ digital technology business development program and were accepted, prompting their move to the Scottish capital and four-month stay in a motorhome as they set up and -operate the business.

Danny Meaney, founder of the UP Accelerator program, said, “We’re always looking for people who have industry experience relevant to the product they’re trying to launch. We’re also looking for resilient characters and Matt and Helen have demonstrated that in spades by what they’re willing to give up to get a spot on the UP program. And of course, we knew the market they were looking to sell in. »

Scottish Investment Banking Director Kerry Sharp said: “It’s great to see Agency Core, a strong business with growth potential, successfully raising seed funding for its next phase of growth, after participating in the UP Accelerator program. ”

Andrew Castell, of Par Equity, said of the investment: “With a successful pitch at our first Thursday event, the company has captured the attention of several Par and syndicate members over the coming months. , with the backing of the Scottish Investment Bank, Agency Core have successfully raised the £150,000 they need to support the next phase of their growth Par Syndicate’s early member engagement in key areas such as business development is a powerful illustration of the mix of intellectual and financial capital put into play by sophisticated investors.

Davies agrees that the investment process has also put Agency Core in touch with key mentors who, in addition to providing financial input, will be actively involved in the development and growth of the business, which operates bases in Edinburgh and in London.
