FORT CARSON, Colorado – Soldiers from the 4th Infantry Division tested new software that allows commanders to automate the planning, coordination and synchronization of electromagnetic activities in cyberspace (CEMA) throughout the army’s process of operations.

The Electronic Warfare Planning and Management (EWPMT) tool integrates battlefield information and the management of electronic warfare and spectrum management (SMO) operations into a common operational environment.

The 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team (2SBCT) Soldiers received comprehensive new equipment training (NET) that familiarized them with EWPMT capabilities and functional support to EW unit and spectrum planning and operations .

During testing, the EWPMT system supported the unit targeting process by identifying and locating known high yielding targets. Additionally, soldiers from 2SBCT used the EWPMT to conduct OMS before and during their command post exercise.

“As a planner, EWPMT allowed me to visualize my effects in the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS),” said 2SBCT CEMA chief, 2 Chief Warrant Officer Brandon Cruz. “The modeling and simulation tools provided by EWPMT allowed me to position electromagnetic warfare (EW) systems on the optimal terrain on the battlefield. “

Cruz said, “In planning for the transition to current operations, we were able to move from non-lethal fires to lethal fires, digitally completing the EWPMT’s gunner sensor to the EWPMT’s tactical data system. field artillery (AFATDS). The EWPMT is increasing the lethality of my brigade and I look forward to using it at the National Training Center (NTC) in November.

Warrant Officer 1 Justin Dugan, electronic warfare technician, with 1st Battalion 2SBCT out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord agreed.

“The ability of EWPMTs to visualize the electromagnetic operating environment and manage electronic warfare sensors provides commanders with a powerful tool that enables them to compete in the electromagnetic spectrum,” he said.

Electronic Warfare Integration (EWI) Product Manager (PdM) plans to move to a Full Deployment Decision (FDD) in 2QFY22 allowing distribution throughout the military.

About the Intelligence Electronic Warfare Testing Directorate:

IEWTD performs independent intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) operational tests; GE; biometrics (BM); and intelligence analysis systems to inform acquisition and commissioning decisions for the military and some multi-service combat systems. Additionally, IEWTD provides threat and ISR simulation and instrumentation support for internal and external test events.

About the U.S. Army Operational Test Command:

As the Army’s only independent operational tester, enlists the “Total Army” (Active, National Guard and Reserve) in testing Army, Joint and Multi-Service combat systems in realistic operational environments, using typical soldiers to determine if the systems are effective, suitable and survivable. OTC is required by public law to test major systems before they are put into service to its end customer – the US soldier.
